MX Record Lookup and Banner Check

The MX Record Lookup and Banner Check section performs an MX record lookup for a given domain name or IP address. During the lookup, a connection check is performed on the resulting host server or supplied IP address to retrieve the SMTP banner. The section also displays the DNS server(s) used for the lookup and check.

To look up the MX record of an emailer, enter it in the Lookup name or IP field and then click Go. Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service will attempt to connect to that server and retrieve the SMTP banner. This feature allows you to verify that an email sender is not spoofing an address to appear more legitimate. The results of the lookup and check are displayed below the SMTP Port field:

Domain Name—The domain name or IP address you entered for the lookup.

DNS Server Used—One of the DNS servers listed in the section.

Resolved Mail Server—The actual email server name and/or IP address determined by Comprehensive Anti-Spam Service.

Banner Received—The banner sent by the resolved mail server, if any.

GRID IP Check

When you enter a host IP address, this tool performs an IP reputation check with the Dell GRID network. For more information on GRID networks, refer to the GRID Network.

To perform a GRID IP reputation check, enter a Host IP Address and then click Go. The result is displayed below the Host IP Address field:

Answer—Indicates whether the IP address is reputable or if it is UNLISTED.
